for compression use UPX, at least for files over 100k or so, aspack
may prove to be better for smaller files (due to differences in
the compression engine, it's basically aplib vs. NRV ;-). v0.62
should be out soon with icon support as well. as for protecion...
well, i don't know of any protector which hasn't been hacked so
far, but you should definitely not fall for the claims of those
commercial protection writers, a scene cracker often writes better
stuff than they do.
