I was asked to forward this to the EXE-List
----------snip----------------
Hello ExeList, this is The Archivist from SuddenDischarge
First of all i want to assure you that the closure of the site had nothing
to do with external pressure. No multinational corporations threatened us
with legal action. There was no cia/fbi/nsa/nro conspiracy.
Nor was there any reason for such things. Everything on the site was
perfectly legal.
1. Preacher/David had a massive hardware failure and lost the server. No
server = no SuddenDischarge
2. it was not possible to transfer the site because it ran off foxweb. Not
many people own foxweb and he could not affort to just give it to them
3. the site had been in danger for some time because the server crashed
frequently. Very frequently. It was becoming a huge burden on him to
continuously monitor the site and keep it up
4. he offered to convert the site to flat html so i could take it somewhere
else and continue the work. I refused. Manually updating all the pages was
simply not an option as it required too much effort and was too error prone.
so SD died
