In the late 90s an active scene of people developed tools to create self-unpacking executable files and protection tools for executables to prevent debugging.
During that time I maintained the EXE mailing list, originally on GMX, later on Egroups which then became Yahoo Groups. The recent de-facto shutdown of Yahoo Groups reminded me of this legacy.
EXE packing still exists in some niches like the demoscene (e.g. kkrunchy).
I'll try to keep some archive of these times here. For now it hosts a copy of the mail archive of the list (unfortunately without attachments, because Yahoo seems to have deleted them at some point). I may later extend it with some software artifacts I have in my backups.
